Ever dreamed of having the gift to vanish and reappear at will? Or wished Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak exists and is available with discount in the nearest department store, complete with a set of eyeglass frames, a magic wand, and a flying broomstick? Whether we’ll admit it or not, we have always been fascinated with the idea of being invisible, along with cool fantasy eyewear and trinkets, and have never stopped hoping that it’s real. Unfortunately, there is still no serum that would give us that ability. And getting caught up in a cosmic storm might turn you into The Thing rather that give you Susan’s power.
Scientists and various experts all over the world have tried for centuries to unlock the power of invisibility – to no avail. We’ve previously discussed how the eyes and the mind can be deceitful, hence it’s no surprise that scientists have made recent breakthroughs that enable normal people like you and me to get the “next best thing.” In other words, while we still can’t vanish at will, we can make ourselves unseen through other feasible ways. There’s no point in complaining; it’s the closest thing we have for now at being invisible. So if you’re still interested, here are some of the techniques:
Wear Camouflage Clothing
Basically, camouflage is the use of various combinations of materials, color, and illumination for concealment. Different species of flora and fauna have done it successfully for thousands of years, while we only started appreciating its use since the 19th century. It has two main principles: crypsis, which is an organism’s ability to make itself hard to see; and minesis or mimicry, an organism’s technique to disguise itself to look like something else. Camouflage clothing is easy to get these days, and it’s the easiest way you can make yourself invisible. The only issue is that you need to use the right outfit at the proper moment.
Use Electronic Bugs
If you’re a huge electronics enthusiast and you’re looking for something fun to make, here’s something that you might like. Electronic bugs are as common as camouflage clothing these days. You can practically spot a CCTV camera everywhere you go! The point is, these cool electronic devices can help you “be present” at any place without actually being there. By using those bugs, you’ll be able to hear things you aren’t supposed to. Beware: the principle “Eavesdroppers never hear anything good about themselves” still applies.
What better way to be invisible than to go to learn it from skilled ninjas? This special martial art has been alive for more than a thousand years. Not only will you learn various stealth techniques that would enable you to render yourself unseen, but it also teaches you martial arts and discipline that would come in handy in case your position is compromised. Plus, it’d be cool to wear that black suit, own a sword, and throw a bunch of Shuriken just for fun. You might even learn some secret, magical technique.
Human ingenuity has allowed us to enjoy these invisibility techniques. For now, we have to make do with them. Who knows, the invisibility serum might just be right around the corner!
